Membership at Montrêux Golf & Country Club comes with plenty of perks. Access to our famous Jack Nicklaus golf course, state-of-the-art fitness center, and elegant club dining are just some of the things that are included. You also get to become a part of our amazing community as well as some of our great member interest groups, like the Montrêux Croquet Group.
The Montrêux Croquet Group has been an interest group here at the club for many years, and right now they are gearing up for the 2021 season. For those who might be new to croquet, the sport involves hitting wooden or plastic balls with a mallet through hoops sometimes called wickets that are placed in a grass playing court. This low impact sport is easy to learn and fun to play for all ages!
The group will begin meeting this year once the weather warms back up and will play until sometime this fall when it cools down again, usually in October. The group meets every Monday at 4:00 pm in the park in Parc Foret on Beaujolais, between Margaux and Chanson. No reservations are required, show up every week, once a month, or whenever you have time! A normal evening of play usually consists of 3 half court, 6 player rounds, followed up by one final full court round comprised of the 2 finalists from each of the earlier rounds.
Thinking about participating but do not own any equipment? No need to fret! All equipment is provided. Just provide your own snacks and beverages.
“You are welcome to bring your own mallet. If you have a professionally fitted ebony mallet with ivory inlays feel free to bring it. You will look good but nothing further is assured.”
– Dan Wilkins, Montrêux Croquet Member
Just like any other group or organization, all current COVID-19 policies are being followed. That includes sanitizing hands, mallets, and balls between rounds, as well as wearing masks if current guidelines require them.
The group is already looking forward to this year’s season of play and seeing lots of new faces.
“Skill helps but is not required. Youth, strength, and coordination are frequently bested by age, cunning, and treachery.”
